Bloody Knees have been teasing themselves for a while now. At every moment, it seems like they’ve almost got there, have been on the cusp of proving just how hard they can knock things out of the park or ready for that next step. Now, with ‘Maybe It’s Easy’, Bloody Knees have the statement they’ve been gearing themselves to lay out – with a tantalising insight of a band in purely unstoppable form.
That gnarling spit of attitude still radiates throughout, but now sounds amplified to the point of all-encompassing ferociousness. ‘We Can Go Wherever’ manages to segue between uncontrollable pounding and tight kicks in a manner that takes every glorious live moment they’ve had over the past few years and distils it into an anthem of their own. It’s a tale replicated throughout, with the title track and ‘Not Done’ packing that garage punch harder than most can even fathom – while ‘I Want It All’ feels refreshed and immediate for a band that soon enough will be commanding their own world around them.
‘Maybe It’s Easy’ is an EP that clears the slate on anything you may have thought about Bloody Knees before, and draws a line in the sand for how big they could become. Showing its teeth with a wink and a smile, this is the sound of a band taking the rulebook, ripping it up and building a shower of glory. No soap needed. Jamie Muir
