Cavetown is one of the most prolific musicians around. It’s what defines him and he’s spent his musical life online packing up all his feelings, desires, and wild fantasies into perfectly realised introspective, idiosyncratic pop songs. On his latest EP ‘Man’s Best Friend’ Robin Skinner’s takes another significant step up.
The songs are more richly defined than ever and Robin colours his tender vignettes with all sorts of deeply relatable and evocative imagery dealing with life, love and universal feelings in an endearing way. Whether he’s talking about his crush’s cute dog on The self-explanatory ‘I Want To Meet Your Dog’ or addressing his imposter syndrome on ‘Guilt’, Robin is a deeply personal writer unafraid to be playful and challenge himself. The songs here are perhaps his greatest realisation of his gentle vision and highlight a young songwriter who is laser-focused in touch with the people for whom his music means so much.
