Charly Bliss – Young Enough

‘Young Enough’ packs bubblegum pop bangers and attitude to spare.
Label: Lucky Number
Released: 10th May 2019
Rating: ★★★★

New Yorkers Charly Bliss are back with their second full-length and if you’re looking for sickly sweet pop-punk bops with the emphasis heavily on pop, then you’ve come to the right place.

‘Blown to Bits’ kicks things off with a whirring synth carrying Eva Hendricks’ helium vocals. ‘Camera’ is a wonderful piece of songwriting, taking debit card fraud and spinning it into an exploration of fate and possibilities, Hendricks pondering the life of the thief. ‘Under You’ rattles alongon a Strokesian guitar motif and a double-time drum beat and is the most straight-up indie rock on show here. Title-track ‘Young Enough’ hints at bigger things, nodding to the Killers’ stadium pomp.

While a few of the songs slide into one another, you can forgive a band on their second record for working to nail down their distinctive sound. ‘Young Enough’ packs bubblegum pop bangers and attitude to spare. A solid effort.
