Even in the anything-goes world of alternative rock, Enter Shikari have always been something of an oddball. Fusing everything from techno to hardcore with no sugar coating, the madcap group have spent a decade twirling about, grabbing whatever takes their fancy, and making it a part of their ever-expanding world. Unsurprisingly, ‘The Spark’ is once again new territory for the band who cherish unexplored spaces. It’s different like never before as the group lean back, open up and allow the record to breathe.
Teetering on the edge of doom, it sees the band look at the horizon and smile. There’s a reason to dance, a reason to fight, a reason to continue. Finding peace in the chaos and twisting the political to personal, yes this is Enter Shikari at their most accessible but it’s not at the cost of souls or spirit. There’s a confidence to their message, a conviction to the way they attack, so why wouldn’t they do everything to make it heard? Ali Shutler
