Happyness – Floatr

‘Floatr’ features every side of a band who have grown in depth.

Rating: ★★★

Happyness’ third album ‘Floatr’ sees the now duo of Jonny Allan and Ash Kenazi, exploring deeper and more honest, personal themes while losing none of the exuberance and melodic sensibility that made their name.

The album arrives after a period of upheaval for the band as they dealt with illness and personal reflection and have emerged from the other side with added clarity and lucidity to their songwriting.

Tracks like single, ‘Vegetable’ ripple with energy while ‘Undone’ grows from blissful acoustic strumming to the most sunny and positive melody you could hope to hear. Elsewhere, the band explore Americana and acoustic balladry as best represented on the graceful piano flecked beauty of ‘When I’m Far Away (From You)’.

‘Floatr’ features every side of a band who have grown in depth since they first emerged and acts as a candid and illuminating insight into Happyness mk 2.
