Joyce Manor - Cody

This is where Joyce Manor kicks things up a notch.

Label: Epitaph
Released: October 7th 2016
Rating: ★★★★

This is where Joyce Manor kicks things up a notch, revelling in catchy pop punk with a distinct sincere and mature edge. Their previous material has always had the personality and fun but ‘Cody’ brings out the band’s next direction.

Running at just under twenty five minutes, it’s a distinct run-through of the band’s best work, though most surprising is how well ‘Do You Really Want To Not Get Better’, a slow acoustic number, creates a respite from the fast paced punk. ‘Stairs’, the longest cut, is the also one of the strongest, building the classic lost and forlorn punk mindset that carries through to the finale ‘This Song Is A Mess’. Each track has its own melodic hook, easily seeing Joyce Manor make the crossover from a “band’s band” to a more mainstream focus. Steven Loftin
