Kamal. – so here you are, drowning

Perhaps the best example of the 19-year-old Londoner’s pop talent.

Label: Neighbourhood Recordings
Released: 17th March 2023

Kamal.’s latest mixtape ‘so here you are, drowning’ is perhaps the best example of the 19-year-old Londoner’s pop talent and ability to combine inventive production sounds with ear wormy hooks to hugely resonant effect.

The vibe is still lo-fi alt pop but there’s an added gravitas and depth to his songwriting that means everything here hits just that bit harder. ‘so so close’ is a heart stopping acoustic stunner that really highlights the purity of his voice while the vulnerability of the nighttime lullaby of ‘crowded places’ induces all of the goosebumps.

There’s still room for a bop though too, and Kamal. delivers and then some on the slinky warped pop of ‘leave me alone’. Lovely stuff.
