Public Service Broadcasting – White Star Liner EP

Public Service Broadcasting have returned with a new EP ‘White Star Liner’ which was premiered live in Belfast earlier this year. The EP focuses on the story of the Titanic which is fitting considering much like the ship’s lifespan, the EP feels a bit short.

Clocking in at 14 minutes, there is the sense that the band could have expanded a bit on the theme particularly considering opening track ‘The Unsinkable Ship’ feels, somewhat ironically, like the start of an epic journey. ‘C-D-Q’ (the repeated morse distress code of the Titanic) seems to accurately represent the chaos that surrounded the sinking of the unsinkable, but overall there is a feeling by the end of ‘The Deep’ that there could have been much more.

Perhaps it’s an intentional metaphor for the short life of the Titanic, but it’s definitely one that rings true with this EP.
