Saint Raymond – We Forgot We Were Dreaming

  • Melissa Darragh
  • April 20, 2021

Label: Cooking Vinyl
Released: 16th April 2021

Six years on from his debut ‘Young Blood’, Nottingham-based Saint Raymond AKA Callum Burrows is back. From indie anthems to heartache, his second album ‘We Forgot We Were Dreaming’ is as heartfelt as it is captivating, taking us on a journey of emotions with a generous amount of catchy riffs and breakdowns thrown in for good measure.

As poised and polished as ever, ‘We Forgot We Were Dreaming’ features slick rhythms, catchy guitar licks, and euphoric drops throughout – pretty much the essentials behind any good indie-pop album. Huge choruses and catchy hooks are a common theme, giving the album that high energy impact we’ve come to know and love. Tracks like ‘Right Way Round’ and ‘Love This Way’ bring an infectiously feel-good vibe, helping to create that perfect sunny day listen – a sought-after formula Saint Raymond has surely mastered.

Tracks like ‘Alright’ and ‘Wide Eyed Blind’ feature more pensive moments while managing to maintain the compelling energy featured throughout the album. The ups and downs of the album create well balanced listen, with topics like mental health and relationships tackled with a slick finesse.

Overall though, the album relies on a clean simplicity. Block chords and repetition are at the foundations throughout, with decorative synth notes adding to the sleek texture. Catchy hooks and smooth rhythms may draw you in, however ultimately this is simple indie-pop – not pushing any boundaries, but done well all the same.
