The Orwells - Terrible Human Beings

The Orwells are trying to retain their youth for as long as possible.

Label: Atlantic
Released: 17th February 2017
Rating: ★★★

Those five scamps who seemingly drank and dived their way into our consciousness in 2014 with their second album ‘Disgraceland’, are back. The Orwells blend of blues and punk doesn’t exactly reach new heights on ‘Terrible Human Beings’, there’s still a bit of spit and bile, though it’s covered with an immaturity you’ll find more so on their debut full length ‘Remember When’.

The lyricism has a far smaller political stance, unlike their breakout track ‘Who Needs You’. Instead you’ll find tracks filled with everything from an ode to ‘Black Francis’, and different career choices in ‘Double Feature’ (“Shoulda been a doctor or a lawyer, shoulda never listened to ‘Destroyer’”).

The world The Orwells began in is certainly different to the one they’re in now, but they’re trying to retain their youth for as long as possible. And really, who can blame them? Steven Loftin
