Two years after the release of their debut album ‘Live for the Moment’, The Sherlocks are back with second LP ‘Under Your Sky’ – 40 minutes of anthemic indie-pop bangers that prove that, sometimes, taking your sweet time is the fastest route to success.
The best way to sum up ‘Under Your Sky’ is electric. Fast-paced guitar-heavy sounds that make it hard to stand still. All 11 tracks convince within the first few seconds; you really only need to listen to each intro to know that this album was made for big festival stages. Songs like ‘Time to Go’, ‘One Day’ and ‘Step Inside’ already promise to be crowd-pleasers at their live performances.
With this album, The Sherlocks have taken their sound to the next level. What sets it apart from ‘Live for the Moment’ is that it sounds more contemporary. Where their debut was mainly dominated by thrashing guitars, ‘Under Your Sky’ sounds smoother, a little more poppy but in the best way possible. ‘Give It All Up’ with its more laidback, somewhat synthy vibes is the perfect example of radio-friendly guitar pop.
And then there is title-track ‘Under Your Sky’; a song that couldn’t be more on-brand if it tried. It perfectly encompasses the current The Sherlocks era: It’s accessible, but without sacrificing its edge. Cool verses that build up to an anthemic chorus and a guitar solo that is sure to have crowds going wild. Combined with their knack for poignant lyrics, it’s nothing short of brilliant.
