Wesley Joseph – GLOW

  • Neive McCarthy
  • February 15, 2023

Label: Secretly Canadian
Released: 17th February 2023

Wesley Joseph is nothing short of a visionary – from the detailed, meticulous approach he takes to his sound, to the innovative tracks themselves and their equally intense music videos, with every corner of his artistry he shakes the game up.

On ‘GLOW’, his latest project, he revitalises himself once again, bringing a new energy, new experience and new creativity to the table. The result? A deliciously distinct and slick collection of eight tracks, cementing Wesley Joseph as one of the most exciting artists around right now.

It’s a project that would be impossible to define, but it delights in that – constantly keeping you on tenterhooks as it flits from rap to soulful pop to garage beats, it’s a chameleon-like exhibit. Wesley has mastered them all, too – he is just as powerful on the sizzling ‘SUGAR DIVE’ as he is on the more laidback ‘MONSOON’. There’s no end to his talent, and it’s on full display on ‘GLOW’.

His bars are always rapid-fire, but his vocals are unfailingly effortless and slick. An intensity peddles throughout ‘GLOW’, but at the same time, Wesley manages to capture a distinct warmth that reels you in time and time again. He may be dwelling on where he’s at with life, meditating on his hard work or working through darker emotions such as grief, but even in the coldest of tracks he has a characteristic energy that keeps that fire burning throughout. Strings and 808s are equally at home on ‘GLOW’, and it takes a mastermind to bring this project together. As the last notes of ‘LIGHT LIGHT’ echo out, there’s a lingering feeling that this is only brushing the surface of what Wesley Joseph is capable of – whatever comes next will no doubt be even more explosive.
