Essence Martins has shared new single ‘Can We All Slow Down’, continuing the North West London artist’s latest run of releases following ‘Please, Don’t Wake Me’.
Built around stripped-back production and introspective songwriting, the track reflects on identity, online pressure and the feeling of constantly being perceived in the digital age.
Speaking about the song, Martins said: “I wrote ‘Can We All Slow Down’ about the pressure of constantly being perceived. We live in an age where we’re always looking at screens, with endless information at our fingertips. It’s not always a bad thing, but it can be overwhelming.”
She added: “This song is about that constant pressure to keep up, to strive for the image of perfection, while knowing everything you do is being watched and judged online. Sometimes it feels like our worth as humans these days is tied to how we’re perceived and we’re all just playing roles in a digital world.”
Martins also described the track as feeling “like writing in my diary”, explaining that it was the first song she created with producer Jay Flew.
Raised in North West London, Martins initially moved to the US on a tennis scholarship before returning to the UK to pursue songwriting full-time. Since releasing her debut EP in 2023, she has supported artists including Cat Burns, Rachel Chinouriri, Paris Paloma, Maisie Peters and Ego Ella May.
Further details surrounding the record have yet to be confirmed.
