15-year-old Beirut artist Japan, Man has just dropped her debut EP, ‘The Bad Days’. Six songs of charming, intimate bedroom pop, it sees the singer-songwriter grapple with self-acceptance, anxiety, relationships, and trauma. Here, she talks us through the record, track by track.
The Bad Days
It’s about how people tend to try to forget about traumatic memories through different ways; for instance, living in their imagination or even distracting themselves with other intense feelings.
Stop Staring
This song revolves around the idea of how time is out of our control, and there is nothing we can do to keep time from watching our every move.
The Law
‘The Law’ is about growing as a person and learning to accept your true self while being trapped in a judgemental society.
Cautious
This one explores the struggles we face with our counterparts in relationships, and how we deeply crave to be understood.
Easy Target
‘Easy Target’ discusses the vulnerability one might feel in a group of people. It’s about how it’s easy for anxiety to trick us into thinking we are the victim in all situations when we are not.
I Like To Wait
It’s about how it’s so very important for us to live in the moment, and not take things for granted. We need to thrive in the moments we are given; if not, they will be nothing but memories.
