It’s weird how when something big is happening release titles and the like start to feel really pointed, innit? Murph’s new Love Fame Tragedy EP ‘Five Songs To Briefly Fill The Void’ probably couldn’t have landed at a better time, as we all hurtle into an abyss of uncertainty and unrest. Cheery stuff, huh? Here, he talks us through his new release track by track.
1. RIDING A WAVE
The lyrics are definitely the most personal I’ve ever written. I’m pretty sure anyway. It was recorded in London and took on several shapes before we landed on one that stuck.
2. BODY PARTS
I had the idea of a song called ‘Body Parts’ a while back. And I wanted to do something creepy and atmospheric, which I guess the verses kind of are. The chorus kind of came out of nowhere and added a much needed positive twist to the song. It feels great live, and I think it’s the obvious choice to kick off EP2.
3. HARDCORE
Hardcore came to me on a rainy day in Ealing, inspired by LCD Soundsystem and what it felt like to be a 20 something in Liverpool, going to indie clubs like Liquidation, getting into trouble etc.
4. PLEASE DON’T MURDER ME (Part 2)
This song is about my wife. It’s supposed to be in jest… well it’s definitely in jest… but when you sing it, it comes across much more sincere than it probably should be.
5. MULTIPLY (FEAT. JACK RIVER)
Times are weird at the moment, and I hope this collection of five songs can offer some form of respite. 5STBFTV is again another attempt to make sense of the world around us, and will be the final EP before the album. Huge Love xo.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Murph and his lovely team on Multiply. It’s damn cool to work with your musical heroes and cement a timeless piece of connection in the form of a song.
