Liverpool quartet Hannah’s Little Sister are about to make their opening statement with debut EP, ‘EP.mp3’. Out from 20th November via Heist Or Hit, news of the alt-pop foursome’s upcoming effort arrives alongside teaser-track ‘Gum’; a bouncing anti-establishment takedown of commercialism and the like that careens about with more energy than your average 3am moggy – complete with aim of fucking shit up. Vocalist Meg Grooters tells us (a little) more.
Hi Meg – what first got you interested in music?
Being a diva and needing attention as a child, being forced to perform for the family with my sister and kate bushing around.
Have you always wanted to be in a band, or did you consider a solo endeavour?
I originally never wanted to do either. I used to be super scared of performing and was much more interested in the idea of writing for people. Then meeting these lot changed that and they forced me out on stage but ultimately showed me that it is fun and silly! Since then, I do both endeavours.
How did you lot meet?
Me and Will met in Burnley as younglings, but we all joined together through Scam Uni.
Does writing songs come easily to you?
It depends on the song, with these most of the time yes because they’re complete nonsense and unvirtuous. But I suppose on the whole also yes also because I’m dramatic and have a lot of feelings so channelling them through song helps me fill my emotional fantasy.
What’s the best Hannah’s Little Sister song?
You tell me!
What can you tell us about your new single ‘Gum’?
Gum is a sort of rant song about how I feel about our current capitalist world at the minute. But we wrapped it in ribbons and glitter because that’s what the big boy corporates do too!
You’ve an EP coming too, right? How did you find putting it together?
A shambles, but also a magical experience thanks to a producer in angel form with brown, luscious locks who came to save us, Saam Jafarzadeh Khamneh.
How would you describe the EP’s vibe?
Mouldy veg, absolute racket, red, blue, yellow and green.
What do you lot do for fun?
We’ve never had fun in our entire lives! Only serious 100% of the time.
What’s next for you guys?
Fashion line, hls perfume, global Zoom tour.
Do you have any predictions for 2021
End of the world, civil war, new Tracy Beaker movie? (We can dream.)
Hannah’s Little Sister’s debut EP ‘EP.mp3’ is out 20th November.
