Getting To Know… The Golden Age of TV

  • Dork
  • February 6, 2020

Leeds art-rock fivesome The Golden Age of TV have today dropped their new tune, ‘Me, You And A Dog’. A playful love song about relationship milestones, it arrives as an early teaser ahead of their debut self-titled EP, due 13th March. Bea Fletcher tells us more.

Hey Bea, how’s it going? Having a good 2020 so far?

Eyup, we’re having a jolly ol’ time, thank you! We’re looking forward to our headline shows and releases. Imagine I’m doing a little wiggle dance as I say that.

Tell us about your band – who are you all, and where did you meet?

We’re Bea, Ryan, Josh, Sam and Ciaran. None of us are originally from Leeds, but Leeds is what brought us together. We met at uni, and it was love at first sight.

Give us the tl;dr of your time in the band so far, what’ve you been up to?

Well, y’know, we’ve just been cruising and snoozing. Rocking and rolling. We work hard, we riff hard, and we have lots of laughs.

We hear you have an EP on the way, what’s it about? Has it been a long time in the works?

We recorded these tracks back in Feb last year, so yeah, it’s gonna be sweet to finally have ’em out! The EP doesn’t have a theme, but in my lyric writing I always tell a story based on personal experiences through a character, so I guess the EP has something in there for everyone. Collectively our writing process and sound has matured in the few years we’ve been together, and this release feels like a very natural progression for us. Plus it’s our first EP! Tasty.

“Getting a dog with someone you love? Spot on.”
Bea Fletcher

What inspired your new single, ‘Me, You and a Dog’?
Ryan firstly wrote the chorus melody, which I thought needed fun, light-hearted lyrics on top. I also really wanted to write a song about lurve and stuff, but it not be too soppy. Getting a dog with someone you love? Spot on.

What else are you working on at the mo?

We’ve been focused on all things EP mostly while keeping up the regular writing. We’ve been so productive! (I hope my mum reads this.) We may also have some NEW new music in our back pockets for the future – even some recorded. But shh.

What do you guys do for fun?

Pints and going to gigs. Really – our social lives don’t stray too far from what we do.

Are you creative in non-musical ways too?

Yes! I’m a part-time illustrator and painter, and Sam’s just started noodling with making cables and guitar pedals.

Who do you think is the most exciting band or musician around right now?

Wait, can we give you a list?! (Gonna do it anyway, sorry.) Big Softy, Yard Act and Long Legged Creatures. They’re all our current faves, all from Leeds. We saw Yard Act at their first live show supporting Big Softy this month, and we were VERY into it.

What would you most like to achieve during your music career?

Personally, I’d love to know I’ve inspired a kid to carry on doing what they love and being themselves. Collectively I think we all just wanna play a big stage to a big crowd and feel like true Stadium Rock Gods.

Anything else we should know?

Ciaran usually has his luscious locks tied back, but always lets them out to play gigs. It gives him Riff Power.

The Golden Age of TV’s single ‘Me, You and a Dog’ is out now. They play Oporto in Leeds on 26th March, and The Finsbury Pub in London on 27th March.
