SXSW kicked off its 2023 edition with Panic Shack, Dead Pony and Saloon Dion, and it looked like this

  • Jamie MacMillan
  • March 15, 2023

SXSW. We know, for most, it’s this legendary thing that happens in a faraway place, where all the buzzy bands go, eat BBQ food (or its vegan equivalent), have a few bottles of fizzy pop, and report back how great a time they had. Or complain about ‘the industry’. One or the other. We’re being on the extremely enthusiastic end this year, though – and why wouldn’t we? So many of our faves are in attendance, after all.

Kicking off SXSW’s music element isn’t the easiest gig. Loads of big wigs and important types are still in transit, the vibe needs to be set, and there’s a lot of jet lag from those coming in from around the world. You need some real oomph to get the party going. Who better for that job than Panic Shack, Dead Pony and Saloon Dion? With the former ramming out their venue in the way that Wet Leg did twelve months previous, all three are fizzing with rambunctious excitement. We shipped our intrepid snapper Jamie MacMillan across the Atlantic to capture the action.

Also, more importantly, enjoy the horses! Note the sign for Forklift Danceworks. That place looks a riot.
