ASHWARYA has dropped her first independent release, ‘Best Friend’, which she premiered on stage while supporting Dua Lipa in Melbourne last week.
It is her second track of 2022, following the September release of ‘Can’t Relate’. “I don’t know what pop music is anymore,” ASHWARYA told Dork in the 2021 feature, which you can revisit here.
The new single received a global debut last week during a support slot alongside Dua Lipa at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, and offers a pop-grounded exploration of confusing and frustrating emotions.
On ‘Best Friend’, the Australian-Indian artist shared: “Catching feels for your best friend straight up sucks, and I wanted to convey that internal turmoil of not wanting to ruin the friendship. The core of this song is a tragedy because it got me reminiscing on what used to be. That aside, though, creating this track was nuts. I wanna give people something different than before, something to ferociously sing and dance to. I need that myself right now.”
