Billy Bragg hits out at “old farts” claiming modern pop isn’t political, praises Declan McKenna, Shame and more

"Young people - they’re *woke*."
Billy Bragg has described hose who claim political pop music isn’t being made as “old farts”, and praised Declan McKenna, Shame and others.

Speaking to the Glastonbury Free Press, he explains: “Any old farts my age who moan that pop stars today aren’t engaged – tell that to Shay D, who raps about feminist issues, or Declan McKenna, a young singer-songwriter who addresses gender issues, or Shame, an agit-prop band from London.

“Tell that to the people behind the Grime4Corbyn movement. Grime is something that is inherently politicised, and it has kept its edge. Young people – they’re *woke*.
