Blossoms have sold more albums than any other debut act this year

  • Dork News Desk
  • December 19, 2016
We all know Blossoms have had a massive year. Hence why we recently talked to them about it all for the end-of-year magazine – and now we’ve got the numbers to prove it.

According to the year-end sales figures, Blossoms have sold more albums this year than any other debut act – beating out names including Jack Garratt and a bloody One Direction-er in the shape of Zayn Malik.

Speaking about their success, label boss Clive Cawley of Virgin EMI said that much of the success has been down to “EPs, touring, merch bundles, album bundles… Fan engagement, I’d say. They’re one of the few artists to be on the A-List at Radio 1,2 and 6. It’s pretty niche to develop them that way. It’s amazing to be up there against Zayn and Jack Garratt – who both released earlier [in the year] – as a brand new band.”

Having some bloody brilliant tunes also play a part, with that self-titled album taking the band around the globe for quite the whirlwind year. Speaking in this month’s magazine, frontman Tom Ogden commented on how they’ve hardly had the time to take it all in.

“You’re that busy, you don’t really have time to take it in; you go from place to place and it’s just non-stop touring… We just want to keep writing and focusing on the future, but we are enjoying it obviously.”

You can read the full feature here right now, to get the full story on the indie success story of the year.

Blossoms aren’t done yet either. They’ll kick off 2017 with even more huge dates around the UK through March and April before a seismic headline show at the Castlefield Bowl on July 8th.
