Bodega have shared a new single, ‘Pillar On The Bridge Of You’

Bodega have shared a new single, ‘Pillar On The Bridge Of You’.

The final taster of new album ‘What’s Your Rupture?’ – set to arrive this Friday (11th March) – it comes alongside a new visual.

Speaking about the track, the band’s Ben Hozie explains: “This is the first love song I wrote for Nikki [Belfiglio] – my partner in romance, art, and BODEGA. Our band, for the most part, has avoided pop’s universal subject matter, love, not because we think it an unworthy subject but because I haven’t been sure how to approach it in BODEGA’s style. The desperate masochism of the verse’s pleading lyrics suggests my current twofold philosophy on the nature of erotic love:

I. It is initially all consuming, self-nihilating, and potentially destructive —> it necessarily takes over your very being and transforms your spirit and entire life. You submit to it because you have no choice in the matter.

II. It only will be substantial if out of this first erotic spark there is a shared sense of purpose. Me and Nikki’s erotic relationship, I think, has been successful primarily because we have a shared project in BODEGA and the various art projects we labour to make together. In this sense, it reanimates the self —> She makes me, like romantic comedies tend to put it, ‘a better person.’ This trope is only a cliché because it is true.”

Of its accompanying video, Ben adds: “Nikki recently developed experimental film footage she shot in Boston nearly ten years ago and realised how much her footage rhymed with the architectural, aquatic, and erotic motifs of the ‘Pillar on the Bridge of You’ lyrics. We shot new performance footage this week and I edited her old footage with the new, giving a second life to her original images. In my mind it’s sort of a sequel to our ‘Charlie’ music vid.”
