boygenius have shared a new single, ‘Not Strong Enough’.
It’s the latest preview of their upcoming debut album ‘the record’, slated for release on 31st March. It follows singles ‘$20’, ‘Emily, I’m Sorry’ and ‘True Blue’.
The origins of ‘the record’ went back to 2020, when Phoebe sent the others a demo of ‘Emily, I’m Sorry’ and asked if they could be a band again. Julien made a Google Drive folder called “dare I say it?”, and everyone flooded it with potential songs. The first thing boygenius did after getting vaccinated last April was meet up to write music together. Whilst the first four tracks were written individually, the rest were developed through “conversations”. The album was recorded in January 2022 in Malibu: ten-hour days every day, for a month.
boygenius, made up of Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, released their debut self-titled EP back in 2018.
The trio will be performing in the UK this summer, with two shows announced in London and Halifax. They will be supported in London by MUNA and Ethel Cain, the latter whom will also support at the Halifax date. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, 3rd March.
