Paul Thomas Anderson's film of Cameron Winter's Carnegie Hall show will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on 1st October, projected on 35mm at Alice Tully Hall with both director and subject in attendance.
'Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall' runs 75 minutes and was shot on 16mm and 35mm at the Geese frontman's solo performance on 11th December last year, with Benny Safdie among the camera operators. It's Anderson's first concert film, and Janus Films and Criterion will release it, starting with a 35mm run of North American cinemas from 20th November.
"A generational talent delivers a mesmerizing performance before a rapt audience in an iconic venue, and a filmmaker with a rare and instinctive feel for music captures it with the utmost sensitivity," says NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim. "Paul Thomas Anderson's document of Cameron Winter's Carnegie Hall triumph is, quite simply, a concert movie for the ages."
The accompanying 'Live At Carnegie Hall' album arrives on 9th October via Partisan. No UK screenings have been announced yet.
