Chilli Jesson has shared a new single, ‘Thick Skin’.

It’s the third to come from a new EP due later this spring, following up on the already released ‘Carolina Reaper’ and ‘Gucci Wants The Suit Back’.

Described as “an extremely personal song that relates back to his school days and Chilli’s overwhelming feeling of alienation amongst his peers”, it was written of a time following a bereavement “of huge and lasting proportions”.

Chilli explains: “the opening line of the song is a direct reference to how I felt that first day I walked back into the classroom – Is there a problem with the way that I’ve walked in? – with all the kids staring at me with this sympathetic look which made me feel more distant and disjointed and I just wanted to curl up back inside my shell – I just want to live inside the cover of a thick skin / coz all the eyes have turned and wonder where I’ve been.”

“In retrospect I had found liberation in not fitting with the norm and having a completely different outlook to my friends, who would end up pursuing normal career paths and fitting into boxes that I felt I could not conform to. All the angst and hardening had given me the belief that I could go out and forge a path of my own”.
