CMAT – who, let’s be real here Dear Reader, on the strength of her Twitter game might well be the best new popstar on the planet – has dropped a Really Very Brilliant new single, ‘2 Wrecked 2 Care’.
Self-described as “the song that would have happened in Sheryl Crow ever had to work in a TK Maxx”, it comes as she also announces her biggest Dublin and London headine shows to date.
Speaking about the track, CMAT explains: “I wrote it during a particularly bad period for my sleeping pattern. It’s a song about not being able to fall asleep, and anxiety/stress-related insomnia, something I have suffered from for years. I think I developed it during years of low-paying, irregular shift work..”
“I’m fascinated by the Jekyll and Hyde effect of how a sliding scale of a lack of sleep completely changes your mood, and how you present yourself as a person. Does a regular lack of sleep force you to evolve into a different person entirely? Different thoughts? Different dreams? Different life than the one you would have if you had the freedom to live healthily?”
‘2 Wrecked 2 Care’ follows on from February’s stand-out ‘I Don’t Really Care For You’.
Those new live dates – set for 2022 – will see CMAT play The Academy, Dublin on 11th March, with a show at London’s Omeara on 8th April. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 25th June, at 10am.
As well as that, CMAT is set to head out on the road supporting Declan McKenna this September, with upcoming festival appearances currently lined-up at Latitude, End of the Road, Wilderness, Live at Leeds, Wild Path and Primavera 2022.
