Conan Gray has dropped his co-directed new video for ‘Overdrive’

  • Stephen Ackroyd
  • February 23, 2021

Top popster Conan Gray has shared his video for that brand new bop, ‘Overdrive’.

Dropped last Friday (19th February), the song is the first taster of new material from Conan since last year’s Really Very Good debut album ‘Kid Krow’.

The video was co-directed by Conan, alongside Dillon Matthew. “I do this thing when I’m in public where I’ll see some beautiful stranger and all of a sudden I’m imagining an entire life with them,” he explains. “The house we’d live in, the reckless, wild life we’d have, the alternate reality I could live if I had the courage to go up and talk to them. That’s what the ‘Overdrive’ video is, it’s a fantasy. It’s the daydream I have every time somebody catches my eye on the street, the daydream I’m having every day I sit alone in my house during this pandemic.

“The wild nights and the excitement of being young and limitless. With the ‘Overdrive’ video, I wanted to let the people watching escape reality the same way I do when I listen to the song. I wanted to make something that just makes you feel good. I think we all need that right now.”

So, just to be clear, if you see Conan looking at you funny, he’s probably cooking up his own personal fantasy. Glad we god that clear.

You can check out the video for ‘Overdrive’ below.

Hello, ‘Dear Reader’

We’d like to ask you for a small favour. We have never been read by more people (hurrah! – Ed), and yet, thanks to the way the ad-funded media market operates, we earn little (booo! – Ed). This publication costs time, money and work – and with proper foundations, we can continue to invest to make it bigger and better than ever before. If you’re able, we’d love it if you’d consider becoming a supporter today. It’ll only take a minute, and you’ll get loads of extra bits and pieces in return. If you’re unable – don’t worry; most pieces are available to read totally free of charge, and many more supporter only articles will unlock after a period of time. Thank you very much!
