Declan Welsh and The Decadent West debut their new vid for ‘Shiny Toys’

The Glasgow group are heading down for The Great Escape in a few months.
Glasgow’s Declan Welsh and The Decadent West have released a new video.

The clip’s for latest single ‘Shiny Toys’, an irresistibly catchy number about childhood friendship, from their new EP of the same name.

“It’s a song about two characters who have an odd love-hate friendship,” says Declan. “The kind of person who’s your best friend, but your rival. It’s about wee boys, competitiveness, growing apart, class, jealousy and the way your past never really leaves you.

“Musically, it’s probs our most anthemic yet. It’s big, maybe quite Britpop influenced. There’s shades of Blur, Pulp, Oasis, but also Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana; all bands with choruses. There’s not enough choruses anymore.”

Catch Declan and co. at buzzfest, The Great Escape this May. They’re playing alongside Phoebe Bridgers, Bloxx, Boy Azooga, Easy Life, Suzi Moon, Bad Sounds, Feet, Goat Girl, King Nun… basically everyone.
