Drenge have dropped a brand new track, ‘Before The War Begins’.
The band’s second offering of 2018, it follows up on the previously revealed ‘This Dance’ and is the first taster of a brand new EP, ‘Autonomy’.
Speaking about the new release, the band explain: “‘Autonomy’ showcases some of our recent work, by way of verses, choruses, middle eights and all that other stuff you learn at BRIT school.”
We’re glad they remembered the choruses bit. It’s rubbish when bands forget them.
They also explain: “the Robot-Coloured® vinyl will be about the size and shape of a supermarket pizza.”

The cover art is described as featuring the band’s “temporary mascot”, DR3-NG3, a “scientific research robot nearing the end of his functional capabilities and pursuing a quest for validation.”
The four track effort has a track listing too. It reads:
01. Autonomy
02. Fades To Black
03. Outside
04. Before The War Begins
Speaking about the new track, ‘Before The War Begins’, the band’s Eoin Loveless explains: “‘Before The War Begins’ is half a love-song and half a hate-song. Like most of our work, it’s a experiment in traditional songwriting gone wrong. A long hot summer and a hosepipe ban has the narrator comparing their deteriorating and dehydrated love life to a war torn city. Along the way they consider how 62 years after the Hungarian revolution there are still places where you can see the bullet holes in the walls in Budapest and how being whisked up by an exciting stranger translates to a long term relationship.”
Sometimes, we wonder if they’re just wondering if we’ll publish this stuff, Dear Reader.
‘Autonomy’ is set for release on 5th October 2018. You can check out ‘Before The War Begins’ below.
