Drenge try to “elevate the slime video to a higher status” with their new clip for ‘Never See The Signs’

  • February 7, 2019

Eagle-eyed fans will have noticed Drenge pushing their own brand of slime of late, and now it’s making its first video appearance in the clip for ‘Never See The Signs’.

It’s the latest cut from new album ‘Strange Creatures’, which was produced by long-time collaborator Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A.), and is set to arrive on 22nd February via Infectious Records.

“If we’re not on top of the zeitgeist, we’re probably slightly behind it,” say the band. “Simply put, the YouTube slime craze has left us beguiled. What is our connection to these polymer-based environmental hazards?

“You can tell us it’s ASMR all you like, but we sense there’s something deeper. Amniotic fluid? Anal retentiveness? You tell us. To let this all play out in a vlog seems to underplay the importance in this bizarre textural dance. To quote Tarkovsky on Monument Valley: ‘Only Americans can be so stupid – shooting only bang-bang films in this very spiritual setting.’

“With our video for ‘Never See The Signs’, we attempt to elevate the slime video to a higher status. Could slime become an Oscar category or a module at film school? The answers are only just revealing themselves.”

To accompany the release of the album, Drenge will be heading out on a tour of independent record shops to perform “digitally rewired and re-engineered tracks” as Drenge Philharmonic. They’ll follow that up with a UK tour in March and April.
