It’s December now, and so come the Christmas songs.
Stepping up to the festive plate this time – Fickle Friends, who have found a tinsel-bound and glittery excuse to deliver a little present in the run-up to their second album, ‘Are We Gonna Be Alright?’, set for release on 14th January 2022.
Titled ‘My Favourite Day’, their new festive bop is sentimental without being slow and dull and boring. It also has bells, so bonus points for that.
Natti Shiner explains. “Have you ever tried writing a Christmas song? (No, Natti – you’re the one in the band, not us – Ed) It’s actually very hard! When we were trying to think of a good concept we kept coming back to our own memories of past Christmases. The funny little quirks of family traditions, and things that went wrong one year. We asked our fans to send in some of their own stories and we pieced together a narrative from all of those. ‘My Favourite Day’ is sprinkled with anticipation, excitement and nostalgia, everything we wanted to add into the mix for a FF Christmas song.
Sonically we just wanted to create something that would complement the lyrics. A slight nod to ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ and Coldplay’s ‘Christmas Lights’. We hope you love our Christmas song, it was magic to make it… even in July!”
