There have been festivals all over the UK this weekend. From Live At Leeds In The Park to Wide Awake and Slam Dunk – both North and South legs – there’s barely a park or field not packed with bands dropping bangers.
Not to be left out, Scotland has had its own extravaganza in the form of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Featuring some of the biggest names on the planet, it’s not been short of Dork friendly artists.
2023 is shaping up to be a massive year for FLO. They started off by being crowned winners of BBC Sound of 2023. They are also set to play Glastonbury, Wireless, Longitude, TRNSMT, Sol Blume, Pharell’s Something In The Water and Summersonic this summer.
‘Fly Girl’ was their first new music of 2023. It features an original rap from Missy Elliot – fitting as the track samples ‘Work It’, finding inspiration in her lyrics, “If you’re a fly gal, get your nails done, get a pedicure, get your hair did”. Speaking about the track, the group explain: “Our ‘Fly Girl’ is the embodiment of strength, empowerment, attitude, and community. She/he/they/them/ are not shaped by what society deems beautiful or acceptable, but a member of an inclusive environment that accepts and embraces femininity in all its glory. We are hardworking independent fly girls who get the job done, and have fun while doing it.”
