Fred again.. has been announced as the runner-up of the BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2023 list.
The top five for the annual list of buzzy newcomers to watch for the year ahead has been revealed over the last few days, with Gabriels, Cat Burns, Nia Archives and now Fred again.. taking four spots on the list. Other artists included FLO, Biig Piig, Rachel Chinouriri, Dylan, Asake and Piri & Tommy – one of whom will be announced as the overall winner tomorrow (5th January).
The BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2023 is selected by an invited group of industry tastemakers, professionals and artists. Already with a considerable stack of achievements behind him, the list’s selection criteria based around previous chart success before the nomination period made Fred again.. still eligible for nomination alongside many newer contemporaries.
This announcement comes on the same day that Fred again.. will appear on Skrillex’s new single, ‘Rumble’, alongside Flowdan.
PinkPantheress was crowned the winner of the BBC Sound of 2022 list, with Wet Leg, Central Cee, and Tems taking the remaining places on the list.
