GHUM have announced their debut album, ‘Bitter’.
The announcement comes alongside a new single, ‘Some People’ – their first new material since 2020’s ‘California’.
Vocalist Laura Guerrero Lora explains: “This song is about getting to know someone and having the fear of hurting them, because love has turned a bit hopeless and unexciting. Not trusting oneself to be able to love someone after not falling in love for a long time.”
“We wanted to have a bit of fun with a video that was diverse and inclusive,” she adds of the Lydia Garnett-directed visual that comes with the song. “Lydia has created a visual world where a fun, camp narrative plays out. Taking inspiration from 90’s pop videos, John Waters movies and the recent Spice Girls documentary series, she created a humorous, unpredictable, queer friendly world for us to live in.”
‘Bitter’ is set for release on 17th June via Everything Sucks. Speaking about the record, Lora reveals: “The style of the songs all taste like GHUM. We recognise it when we’re jamming. We know what we’re doing now. It’s strong and a bit aggressive, a bit melancholic. It’s like us.”
