Grimes: “Music is my side quest now”

  • Dan Harrison
  • January 4, 2023

Grimes has addressed the long wait for her follow-up to most recent album ‘Miss Anthropocene’, tweeting about the difficulties of fame and notoriety.

It’s over a year since she first started teasing her next collection, ‘BOOK 1’. She wrote, “Ofc I’ll still release BOOK 1 & more. I owe y’all, the artists life is blessed and I take that seriously. But! My fam, best friends, and babies get dragged in no matter what i do, the narrative doesn’t belong to me. my friends/ fam r my whole Life – this is their battle too.”

Grimes revealed that minor legal issues and the unwanted attention that comes with releasing new music have been the main reasons for the delay.

The Canadian musician has promised to still release the album and has asked fans to be understanding about the reasons for the delay. She has also stated that her music is now her “side quest”.

I’ll always release music but if it hasn’t been clear ; music is my side quest now. Tbh reduced pressure x increased freedom 🐉= prob more music just ideally “Low key
I’ll always do my best to entertain whilst depleting my literal reputation I hope that’s ok I love y’all 🙏🏻💚

The tweets come a few months after Grimes blasted journalists who were attempting to “doxx” her and her children in an effort to get at her former partner, Elon Musk. Grimes has since been vocal about the challenges that come with fame and notoriety and the effects it has on her loved ones.
