An indie-sputable amount of independent music is set to play on Radio 1 tonight

“A Celebration Of Independent Music” will take over the station for 10 hours
In a break from playing the next big ‘Flo Rida featuring Pitbull featuring Calvin Harris with a Greg James comedy parody video’ number – Radio 1 will hand over the reigns completely to independent music tonight for an unprecedented 10 hours.

Starting from 6pm tonight (July 4th), the station will only be playing tracks from those signed to indie labels (as you’d expect) so expect a few diddies from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Last Shadow Puppets, Wolf Alice and more. You’ll also find spruced in there a range of interviews with those working at the labels and artists signed to them, along with a special hour-long programme from Huw Stephens talking about the most influential record labels of all time.

Speaking about the decision, Radio 1’s Head Of Music Chris Price said: “The UK’s independent label community is one of the most vibrant in the world. We want to celebrate the part it plays in making Britain one of the most creative and respected music hubs on the planet.”

The indie love will be running through until 4am tomorrow morning (July 5th), so if you fancy a late night of “When Will They Play Jamie XX Bingo” then we’re game.
