Jack White returns with a surprise new track

Want to know what Jack's 'Battle Cry' sounds like? Look no further.
Out of nowhere, Jack White has dropped a surprise new track.

‘Battle Cry’, released today (7th April) is a two and a half minute, near-instrumental, save for a bit of chanting. It’s unclear at the moment as to whether or not this is a one-off or a part of a forthcoming album, but whatever it is, it sounds big and ruthless – exactly how we like our Jack White.

Back in 2014, Jack released ‘High Ball Stepper’, the first single from ‘Lazaretto’, which was also an instrumental. If we were betting people we’d pop some money on a new album coming very soon.

In a recent New Yorker article, White revealed he’d been holed up in an apartment in Nashville where he’s been recording on “a reel-to-reel tape recorder that he bought when he was fourteen with money he made mowing lawns.”

White’s last release was an acoustic rarities compilation last year, cleverly entitled ‘Acoustic Recordings 1998 – 2016’.
