Jamie xx has revealed that his highly anticipated sophomore album is “in finishing mixing mode” and that it will feature a guest spot from The Avalanches.
The album follows up the producer’s 2015 debut ‘In Colour’, and is expected to be released sometime this year.
Jamie xx made the announcement during an interview with triple j Mornings, and elaborated on the tracklist and influences for the project, citing “DJ-ing [and] finding old records” as influences.
The producer also discussed his collaboration with The Avalanches for their last album, ‘We Will Always Love You’, and said that he’s been “really been enjoying the process” of songwriting.
“I worked a bit with The Avalanches before the pandemic for their last album and then we sort of carried on,” Jamie xx explained. “Just seeing the process of how they work, how they sample. They’ve always been an inspiration for me. Working on the same track with them has kind of informed a different way of making music slightly for me.”
No title or release date has been revealed yet, but fans can be sure that Jamie xx’s new album is on its way.
