joan have released ‘don’t wanna be your friend’, their first single of 2022

joan have just dropped their first new music of 2022, the upbeat alt-pop single, ‘don’t wanna be your friend’.

It is the Arkansas-based duo’s first release since their two-part EP series, ‘hi’ and ‘bye’, were shared at the end of last year.

joan have since been busy on their biggest headline tour to date. They explain: “we immediately started writing songs again when we got home. After over two years of releasing music without playing shows alongside those releases, we had never felt so energized and inspired to start working on our best songs yet. ‘don’t wanna be your friend’ was the first song that we wrote after the tour, and we immediately knew it was an extremely special song.”

“It’s also about growing up though and knowing that you just can’t continue being friends with each other because you know how that situation turns out,” they elaborate. “We hope this song resonates with you in some way – makes you realize you need to cut that person out of your life, makes you move, makes you want to start a band, makes you want to call your best friend :).”

The single promises to be just a taste of an upcoming debut album, which has been years in the making. Further details are currently unconfirmed.
