Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is making his theatrical debut with new play, Leave to Remain

It'll be at The Lyric Hammersmith early next year.

Kele Okereke has teamed up with Matt Jones to provide the soundtrack for new play, Leave to Remain.

His theatrical debut, it will be at The Lyric Hammersmith in London from 18th January to 16th February 2019. The first song from Leave to Remain, ‘Not the drugs talking’ is out today – check it out below.

“Leave to Remain is the story of what happens when a marriage forces two very different families to come together,” says Kele. “For the music for this project I took cues from the records that my parents would play in our house when I was growing up, West African high-life music, and I tried to combine those sounds with the electronic dance music I hear in clubs today. It was important to me to make something that represented the meeting of two very different worlds.”

The play – which tells the story of a “young gay couple suddenly faced with an uncertain future” – is directed by Robby Graham, and features Olivier Award nominated actor Tyrone Huntley in the lead role of Obi.
