What d’ya need on a Tuesday? New Lana Del Rey – and she’s delivered big-time with new number ‘Venice Bitch’ whilst confirming new album ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’
After confirming plans to release two tracks over the coming week, and unveiling the first number ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’, ‘Venice Bitch’ is a nine-minute groove of a track that builds and soothes in equal measure. Basically, we can imagine sitting in our bedrooms and gazing out at the icy evening through our window to it. Perfect.
Debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, Lana also confirmed a title for that long-awaited new album in the form of ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’. Produced by Jack Antonoff (yeah, the hitmaker himself), it’s set to drop in 2019.
Speaking about the album title to Zane and how it came about, Lana noted that “working with Jack, I was in a little bit of a lighter mood because he was so funny. So the title track is called “Norman Fucking Rockwell” and it’s kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist but he thinks he’s the sh*t and he knows it and he like won’t shut up talking about it. So often I ended up with these creative types or not or whatever and you know they just go on and on about themselves and I’m like yeah, yeah. But there’s a little bit of merit to it also. They are so good. I just like the title track so much that I was like OK, I definitely want the record to also be called that”.
The interview revealed some pretty stunning things. We found out Lana’s currently training to get a pilot’s licence, she’s enjoying sailing, she’s painting and she’s working on a book too of short stories and poems. This is the update we needed.
AND. AND. AND. We may have more new music in October too. Woah.
Until then, click play on ‘Venice Bitch’ below. It’s a belter.
