Lucy Dacus has shared her take on Blaze Foley's 'Clay Pigeons', taken from the upcoming tribute album 'Sittin' With Blaze', due digitally on 7th August via Lost Art Records.
Speaking about the song, Dacus says: "My friend Max showed me 'Clay Pigeons' about six years ago when we were getting to be friends and it just made such a huge impression on me. On first listen I was like, 'This is one of the best songs ever written.'"
She continues: "I have turned around and showed it to many people who said 'How have I not heard this yet?' So I feel like by word of mouth this song just has a life of its own and continues to really make an impression on people. Something I like about it is you can't tell if he's giving up and running away from a life or if he's trying really hard to find a new life. I guess a lot of traveling puts you in between those goals. It's just wonderful. I hope anyone that hears my version will end up going back to the source material."
'Sittin' With Blaze' also features contributions from Phosphorescent, Willie Watson, Cactus Lee, Dylan Earl, Uncle Lucius, Riley Downing, Joshua Ray Walker, Twain, Angela Autumn, John R. Miller, John Moreland and Lucinda Williams.
The 'Sittin' with Blaze: A Tribute to Blaze Foley' tracklist is:
1. Phosphorescent - If I Could Only Fly
2. Willie Watson - Big Cheeseburgers & Good French Fries
3. Lucy Dacus - Clay Pigeons
