Mac DeMarco has announced a new album, ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’. The record is a collection of instrumental recordings that DeMarco made during his travels around North America, which began in January 2022.

“The plan was to start driving north, and not go home to Los Angeles until I was done with a record,” DeMarco said. “Kind of like being on tour, except there weren’t any shows, and I’d just be burning money.”

DeMarco’s goal was to travel to different cities, recording and mixing songs in each one. He packed his guitars, bass, a drum kit, a couple of mics, and a TX7. “I tried to keep things busy all the time,” DeMarco said. “If I didn’t know what was up in a city, I’d just walk around ‘til someone recognized me and go from there. I met a lot of interesting people this way, and had a bunch of cool experiences.”

The tracklisting reflects the chronological order of the songs that were recorded and mixed. After a show in the Bay Area, DeMarco stayed in motels, hotels, and people’s houses, and his journey eventually led him to a cabin in Utah.

“I didn’t ever have a sound in mind, or a theme or anything, I would just start recording,” DeMarco said. “Luckily the collection of recordings from this period all shake hands, they have a present musical identity as a whole.”

‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ is set to be released on January 20th, 2021 as a CD/digital release, with a vinyl version to follow on 12th May 2021.

“I hope you enjoy,” DeMarco said. “This record sounds like what rolling around like that feels like.”
