Matilda Mann reveals new single ‘Glass Ceiling’

It finishes up her new EP, 'Sonder', which is streaming now.

Matilda Mann has just released her new EP ‘Sonder’, finishing it up with her new single ‘Glass Ceiling’.

Fresh off the back of supporting Holly Humberstone, Matilda is currently on the road with Dodie, and will headline London’s Lafayette on 6th October.

On the new single, she reveals: “‘Glass Ceiling’ was written and produced with Rich Cooper (Billie Marten, Rina Sawayama, Josef Salvat) in his studio. I wrote it about a guy I knew who would always go on about being a particular kind of person, but would never actually go through with what they said they stood for. We wrote it over a couple of days and wanted it to be a kind of uplifting powerful song to end the EP.” Of her process, she continues, “As a songwriter, I’m always aware of the particular kinds of situations I get into and specifically how they make me feel. I kind of also take up the challenge of trying to imagine how others are feeling. Sometimes, I think you can feel so lonely in this world, because maybe you think nobody understands what you’re going through. So when a song can describe that for you, it can also change your whole perspective.”

Meanwhile, talking about the EP, she explains: “Sonder means; the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. For me, this was something I realised while in the middle of lockdown. I had all the time in the world to take a step back and see how other people lived their lives, in a way I hadn’t thought of before. I named the EP “Sonder” because each song was either written about someone else, or for someone else. All the tracks were written this year, and I was writing a lot for friends going through a hard time and trying to make a song they could relate to.”
