Matty Healy has taken to Reddit to lay to rest some fan speculation about The 1975‘s upcoming album, ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’.
Fans had been chatting on Reddit about whether the song, ‘New York’, might feature on ‘BFIAFL’. Regular readers of Dork will remember that ‘New York’ was a track that Matty played when he took to the stage ahead of a Phoebe Bridgers show last October in LA.
Whilst the tracklisting for their fifth album got announced last week, it made sense to wonder if ‘New York’ would pop up under a different name. After all, even the album title of ‘BFIAFL’ appeared to be a take on a previous working title for ‘Bagsy Not in Net’, which featured on ‘Notes in a Conditional Form’.

However, Matty has confirmed that not only will ‘New York’ not feature on the album, but it was a song created by Dirty Hit label-mate, Benjamin Francis Leftwich. He did write a bridge for the track, which then became ‘Part of The Band’.
So, we have learned that ‘BFIAFL’ will feature more music we’ve never heard before. And that Mr Healy continues to lurk around socials seeing what people are saying.
The first track from ‘BFIAFL’, ‘Part of The Band’, will be released on 7th July.
