Mellah has shared a new single, ‘Heaven Only Knows’.
A pensive cut taken from his ‘333 (Them)’ EP, which is set for release on a limited vinyl run on 12th November, it’s a track concerned with the fall-out of the last 18 months of pandemic sponsored turmoil, and its effect on our closest relationships.
Mellah says: “It started life as a song about whether me and my partner at the time could find a way to stay together, but ended up as a broader question asking whether we could all find a way to cohabit together; if not in harmony then at least in some semblance of tolerance.
The pandemic has felt like a crossroads; for me at least, it’s thrown everything up in the air, creating in equal measure an atmosphere of both anxiety and excitement when considering how it will all fall back down to earth again. ‘Heaven Only Knows’ is just asking, ‘how do we want it to look when / if it all lands?’”
The first in a trilogy of EPs, ‘Them’, ‘Us’ and ‘Me’, or ‘333’ collectively, each release will include three songs, described by Mellah as “scratching a compulsive lifelong tic”. During his childhood and into adolescence, Mellah suffered from OCD which manifested as a fixation on the number 3. “To this day I still see the world separated into 3 parts,” he explains. “One thing, its opposite and together the whole; the liminal space between the two extremes, the point of balance, oneness in duality. For example – future, past, now; birth, death, life; good, evil… human.”
