Hackney newcomer Mychelle has dropped her debut single, ‘The Way’.

Mychelle first picked up a guitar aged 10, so the story goes. And then put it back down, because she was only ten and honestly we all have better things to do with our time at that age. At 17, though, she started learning her craft, being spotted in 2019 by Idrid Elba out of ‘being Idris Elba’. Inviting her to his studio to write and sing on his Yardie Mixtape project, the rest, as they say, is history.

Or a press release.

Released via FAMM – a management company and label which has previously released the likes of Jorja Smith, Maverick Sabre and ENNY, it’s fair to say there is some considerable prestige attached.

It’s fitting too. ‘The Way’ is a really bloody lovely song – quiet yet effecting, it’s smooth and soulful; sort of like Mychelle’ is already a superstar, and the rest of us are only just catching up.

Arriving alongside a video directed by Michaela Quan (Vogue, The Face), and shot on Hackney Downs, you can check it out below.
