The latest Speedy Wunderground signing, O., have shared their debut single, ‘OGO’, today.
O., who are fresh from a performance at the Pitchfork Festival earlier this week, have shared ‘OGO’, the much-awaited first release for the South London duo. Born from improvising at home during lockdown, saxophonist Joseph Henwood and drummer Tash Keary had a debut show at Brixton’s Windmill before going on to support black midi on tour.
On the track, Joe Henwood says: “’We wrote OGO in a soundcheck in Oslo, whilst on tour supporting black midi. It had hit minus 5 outside so we started jamming something fast to try and keep our hands warm. Playing live is a really big part of O., so we loved the Speedy Wunderground approach of recording one track in one day, holding off on major edits, and we are not even listening to the track until it’s released. It’s just the two of us on the single (as it is live) with Dan Carey and Adele Phillips helping us recreate that gig feeling in the studio.’
The pair have recently been organising a series of nights known as ‘O Zone’ at The Windmill, hosting live improvisations onstage with the likes of Goat Girl and Nubiyan Twist. The two are also set to play a headline show later this month at London’s Peckham Audio, with tickets available here.
You can listen to ‘OGO’ here. Limited copies of 7″ physical copies will be available from 13th January 2023.
