Another preview of
Olivia Rodrigo's forthcoming third album has arrived in the shape of '
The Cure', a fresh cut from '
You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love'.
Posting about the song on social media ahead of its release, Rodrigo called it her "favourite on the album" and "one of my favourite songs I've ever made".
Driven by an acoustic guitar line, the track digs into misplaced trust and self-doubt, and lands alongside a video in which the singer hunts for an antidote to heartbreak. It marks the second taste of the album proper, following lead cut '
Drop Dead'. A further track titled 'Begged', a collaboration with Weyes Blood, has been aired at a recent phone-free show in Los Angeles and during an appearance on SNL, though it is yet to receive an official release.
The record arrives after 2021's '
Sour' and 2023's '
Guts', with Rodrigo previously framing it as "experimental" and packed with "sad love songs". She has said the project centres on "jealousy" and "longing" stemming from her first "big girl relationship", and has pointed to The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, The White Stripes and Bikini Kill among its influences.
Her affection for The Cure runs deep — frontman Robert Smith joined her on the Pyramid Stage during her
Glastonbury 2025 headline set, and the pair have more recently been working together in the studio.
In live news, Rodrigo recently confirmed her 'Unraveled Tour', with Wolf Alice, The Last Dinner Party, Devon Again, Die Spitz and Grace Ives on the bill. Extra dates have been added at
The O2 in London to meet demand.
