Paramore’s new material sounds a bit different, doesn’t it? It’s no wonder though – during its creation, songwriter Taylor York was “trying to rip off” Tame Impala.
“Taylor started writing music we were still doing shows for [previous album] Self-Titled and the first stuff that he was sending me I was really intimidated by because I loved it so much,” Hayley Williams says in a new Beats 1 interview. “It was very rhythmic and very different from anything that we had written before.”
“I was only listening to Tame Impala,” explains Taylor, “so I was just trying to rip off everything. I had to try. It didn’t work, but I had to try.”
